Behavior of a soliton moving in an optical waveguide along an inhomogeneous and time-dependent background is addressed in the framework of the Gerdjikov-Ivanov model. Equations describing the soliton motion were derived. Theory is illustrated by the soliton motion along a simple wave. Keywords:soliton, optical waveguide, Gerdjikov-Ivanov model.
