A brief scientific-methodological review of theoretical works and approaches created in the nonlinear optics of extremely short pulses from the 1970s to the present is presented. Important features are emphasized that distinguish the nonlinear optics of extremely short pulses from the nonlinear optics of quasi-monochromatic signals. Keywords: Extremely short pulse, Unipolar Pulse, Soliton.
